Laura Esquival’s bestselling novel, Como Agua Para Chocolate, comes to life in the film, Like Water for Chocolate. This film, directed by Laura Esquival’s former husband Alfonso Arau, occasionally takes on a magical, realist style. Tita, the youngest of three daughters in a traditional Mexican family, falls in love with a man named Pedro and discovers that her cooking has magical effects.  This beloved film was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film as Mexico’s submission in 1993. This film is rated R for mature content.
