Nevia Carlos

Nevia Carlos was born in Trieste, Italy and immigrated with her family to the United States in 1956. Italian was her first language but, after learning English as a child, she studied Latin, Spanish and French in school in Long Island, New York. She attended the University at Albany and received a BA in Spanish and an MA in Secondary Education/Spanish. She is permanently certified by New York State to teach Spanish and French. She taught for over 34 years at Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park.

Nevia participated in a junior semester abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico, another semester of study at the Universidad Autónoma in Mexico City, and at the Curso Superior de Filología in Salamanca, Spain during her sabbatical. She has travelled numerous times to Mexico, Italy, Spain and France. She has also visited Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Argentina and Chile. Currently, she is keeping up her fluency in French by travelling yearly to Paris. Because of her love of foreign languages and cultures, she has found great satisfaction in teaching French and substituting in Italian for the Language Learning Institute.
