French/Spanish/Italian/Mandarin Chinese/English for Effective Communication Language Teachers

Reports To

The Founder/Director of The Language Learning Institute, LLC

Job Overview

The Language Learning Institute is seeking part-time language teachers (French, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Italian, and English for Effective Communication) experienced working with young children, young adults, and/or adults. The class size is typically small (3 – 6) and are currently delivered on-line virtually. The class demographic ranges from young children to seniors. The candidate must be willing and able to use the proven methodology (priority on speaking first) and be part of an innovative small team. The chosen candidate must not only be able to effectively teach the target language as measured by the progress of their students’ language proficiency, but they must also create an engaging learning environment by following the methodology such that the students desire to continue studying at the Language Learning Institute.

The methodology is very specific. It begins with teaching from the isolated word and a picture may be used to identify the word. Next, the word evolves to a fragment, and then a sentence, and ultimately to a story. Students are taught to actively listen and hear what the speaker is saying to them. Students learn to use what they hear to answer the question. They study for usage, and are provided the opportunity to use what they have learned in an integrated fashion through speech. Reading and writing assignments are provided to practice the lesson taught. The curriculum is provided to the teacher. Co-ordinating textbook and workbook assignments are utilized to optimize the active use of the language. This is a performance-based course – non-grade.
Studies in linguistics and phonetics are required to successfully teach using this methodology. Linguistic patterning is applied to the teaching.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Implement the curriculum using the prescribed methodology with fidelity
  • Customization of prepared lesson plans for each class consistent with the methodology
  • Develop self-study lessons

What Our Students Are Saying

“Planning a visit to Quebec province, I decided to attend a set of adult evening classes given by Nancy Scarselletta at a local high school. Her enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, the French language prompted me to sign up for further individual lessons. Over the last two years, I have come to appreciate Nancy’s vast experience –and infinite patience! — in teaching French with her unique emphasis on phonetics which she studied at the Sorbonne. In my opinion, French is not an easy language for English speakers given its unusual rules with multiple exceptions, potential liaisons, numerous irregular verbs, unfamiliar phonics, and plentiful idioms. I’ve appreciated Nancy’s approach and guidance throughout the course. And it’s been fun.”
