China’s “environmental accounting” approach to ecological problems works according to the latest report produced by Natural Capital Project in collaboration with a team of Chinese scientists. To produce this report, scientists made use of a software suite called InVest which allowed them to pinpoint which conservation efforts yielded the most benefit from 2000-2010. Known the world over for its heavily polluted cities, China is not always thought of as a steward the environment, yet this report demonstrates that their ambitious efforts have paid off. According to Standford scientists, Chinese methods of using science to make environmental policy decisions can be applied anywhere in the world.
